وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمُ ٱثْنَتَىْ عَشْرَةَ أَسْبَاطًا أُمَمًاۚ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱسْتَسْقَـٰهُ قَوْمُهُۥٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْحَجَرَۖ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ مِنْهُ ٱثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًاۖ قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْۚ وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْغَمَـٰمَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰۖ كُلُواْ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ 160
وَإِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱسْكُنُواْ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةَ وَكُلُواْ مِنْهَا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمْ وَقُولُواْ حِطَّةٌ وَٱدْخُلُواْ ٱلْبَابَ سُجَّدًا نَّغْفِرْ لَكُمْ خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِكُمْۚ سَنَزِيدُ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ 161
فَبَدَّلَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مِنْهُمْ قَوْلاً غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى قِيلَ لَهُمْ فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِجْزًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَظْلِمُونَ 162
وَسْــَٔلْهُمْ عَنِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ٱلَّتِى كَانَتْ حَاضِرَةَ ٱلْبَحْرِ إِذْ يَعْدُونَ فِى ٱلسَّبْتِ إِذْ تَأْتِيهِمْ حِيتَانُهُمْ يَوْمَ سَبْتِهِمْ شُرَّعًا وَيَوْمَ لَا يَسْبِتُونَۙ لَا تَأْتِيهِمْۚ كَذَٲلِكَ نَبْلُوهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْسُقُونَ 163
وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمُwaqaṭṭaʿnāhumuAnd We divided themٱثْنَتَىْith'natay(into) twoعَشْرَةَʿashrata(and) ten [i.e. twelve]أَسْبَاطًاasbāṭantribesأُمَمًۭا ۚumaman(as) communitiesوَأَوْحَيْنَآwa-awḥaynāAnd We inspiredإِلَىٰilātoمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusaإِذِidhiwhenٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُis'tasqāhuasked him for waterقَوْمُهُۥٓqawmuhuhis peopleأَنِani[that]ٱضْرِبiḍ'ribStrikeبِّعَصَاكَbiʿaṣākawith your staffٱلْحَجَرَ ۖl-ḥajarathe stoneفَٱنۢبَجَسَتْfa-inbajasatThen gushed forthمِنْهُmin'hufrom itٱثْنَتَاith'natātwoعَشْرَةَʿashrata(and) ten [i.e. twelve]عَيْنًۭا ۖʿaynanspringsقَدْqadCertainlyعَلِمَʿalimaknewكُلُّkullueachأُنَاسٍۢunāsinpeopleمَّشْرَبَهُمْ ۚmashrabahumtheir drinking placeوَظَلَّلْنَاwaẓallalnāAnd We shadedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimu[on] themٱلْغَمَـٰمَl-ghamāma(with) the cloudsوَأَنزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāand We sent downعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuupon themٱلْمَنَّl-manathe mannaوَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ ۖwal-salwāand the quailsكُلُوا۟kulūEatمِنminfromطَيِّبَـٰتِṭayyibāti(the) good thingsمَاmāwhichرَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ ۚrazaqnākumWe have provided youوَمَاwamāAnd notظَلَمُونَاẓalamūnāthey wronged Usوَلَـٰكِنwalākinbutكَانُوٓا۟kānūthey wereأَنفُسَهُمْanfusahum(to) themselvesيَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnadoing wrong
7:160
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقِيلَqīlait was saidلَهُمُlahumuto themٱسْكُنُوا۟us'kunūLiveهَـٰذِهِhādhihi(in) thisٱلْقَرْيَةَl-qaryatacityوَكُلُوا۟wakulūand eatمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itحَيْثُḥaythuwhereverشِئْتُمْshi'tumyou wishوَقُولُوا۟waqūlūand sayحِطَّةٌۭḥiṭṭatunRepentanceوَٱدْخُلُوا۟wa-ud'khulūand enterٱلْبَابَl-bābathe gateسُجَّدًۭاsujjadanprostratingنَّغْفِرْnaghfirWe will forgiveلَكُمْlakumfor youخَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِكُمْ ۚkhaṭīātikumyour sinsسَنَزِيدُsanazīduWe will increase (reward)ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers
7:161
فَبَدَّلَfabaddalaBut changedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūwrongedمِنْهُمْmin'humamong themقَوْلًاqawlanwordغَيْرَghayraother thanٱلَّذِىalladhī(that) whichقِيلَqīlawas saidلَهُمْlahumto themفَأَرْسَلْنَاfa-arsalnāSo We sentعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimupon themرِجْزًۭاrij'zantormentمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyبِمَاbimābecauseكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereيَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnadoing wrong
7:162
وَسْـَٔلْهُمْwasalhumAnd ask themعَنِʿaniaboutٱلْقَرْيَةِl-qaryatithe townٱلَّتِىallatīwhichكَانَتْkānatwasحَاضِرَةَḥāḍiratasituatedٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥri(by) the seaإِذْidhwhenيَعْدُونَyaʿdūnathey transgressedفِىfīinٱلسَّبْتِl-sabtithe (matter of) Sabbathإِذْidhwhenتَأْتِيهِمْtatīhimcame to themحِيتَانُهُمْḥītānuhumtheir fishيَوْمَyawma(on the) dayسَبْتِهِمْsabtihim(of) their Sabbathشُرَّعًۭاshurraʿanvisiblyوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) dayلَاlānotيَسْبِتُونَ ۙyasbitūnathey had Sabbathلَاlā(they did) notتَأْتِيهِمْ ۚtatīhimcome to themكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusنَبْلُوهُمnablūhumWe test themبِمَاbimābecauseكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereيَفْسُقُونَyafsuqūnadefiantly disobeying
