ٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلْأَيْدِۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ 17
إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا ٱلْجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ 18
وَٱلطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةًۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ 19
وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ ٱلْخِطَابِ 20
۞ وَهَلْ أَتَـٰكَ نَبَؤُاْ ٱلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُواْ ٱلْمِحْرَابَ 21
إِذْ دَخَلُواْ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْۖ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفْۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَٱهْدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٲطِ 22
إِنَّ هَـٰذَآ أَخِى لَهُۥ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِىَ نَعْجَةٌ وَٲحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِى فِى ٱلْخِطَابِ 23
قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّـٰهُ فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩ 24
فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٲلِكَۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَــَٔابٍ 25
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدُۢ بِمَا نَسُواْ يَوْمَ ٱلْحِسَابِ 26
ٱصْبِرْiṣ'birBe patientعَلَىٰʿalāoverمَاmāwhatيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey sayوَٱذْكُرْwa-udh'kurand rememberعَبْدَنَاʿabdanāOur slaveدَاوُۥدَdāwūdaDawoodذَاdhāthe possessor of strengthٱلْأَيْدِ ۖl-aydithe possessor of strengthإِنَّهُۥٓinnahuIndeed, he (was)أَوَّابٌawwābunrepeatedly turning
38:17
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weسَخَّرْنَاsakharnāsubjectedٱلْجِبَالَl-jibālathe mountainsمَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith himيُسَبِّحْنَyusabbiḥ'naglorifyingبِٱلْعَشِىِّbil-ʿashiyiin the eveningوَٱلْإِشْرَاقِwal-ish'rāqiand [the] sunrise
38:18
وَٱلطَّيْرَwal-ṭayraAnd the birdsمَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖmaḥshūratanassembledكُلٌّۭkullunallلَّهُۥٓlahuwith himأَوَّابٌۭawwābunrepeatedly turning
38:19
وَشَدَدْنَاwashadadnāAnd We strengthenedمُلْكَهُۥmul'kahuhis kingdomوَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuand We gave himٱلْحِكْمَةَl-ḥik'mata[the] wisdomوَفَصْلَwafaṣlaand decisiveٱلْخِطَابِl-khiṭābispeech
38:20
۞ وَهَلْwahalAnd has (there)أَتَىٰكَatākacome to youنَبَؤُا۟naba-u(the) newsٱلْخَصْمِl-khaṣmi(of) the litigantsإِذْidhwhenتَسَوَّرُوا۟tasawwarūthey climbed over the wallٱلْمِحْرَابَl-miḥ'rāba(of) the chamber
38:21
إِذْidhWhenدَخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey enteredعَلَىٰʿalāuponدَاوُۥدَdāwūdaDawoodفَفَزِعَfafaziʿaand he was afraidمِنْهُمْ ۖmin'humof themقَالُوا۟qālūthey saidلَاlā(Do) notتَخَفْ ۖtakhaffearخَصْمَانِkhaṣmāni(We are) two litigantsبَغَىٰbaghāhas wrongedبَعْضُنَاbaʿḍunāone of usعَلَىٰʿalātoبَعْضٍۢbaʿḍinanotherفَٱحْكُمfa-uḥ'kumso judgeبَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween usبِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُشْطِطْtush'ṭiṭbe unjustوَٱهْدِنَآwa-ih'dināand guide usإِلَىٰilātoسَوَآءِsawāian evenٱلصِّرَٰطِl-ṣirāṭi[the] path
38:22
إِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰذَآhādhāthisأَخِىakhī(is) my brotherلَهُۥlahuhe hasتِسْعٌۭtis'ʿunninety-nineوَتِسْعُونَwatis'ʿūnaninety-nineنَعْجَةًۭnaʿjatanewe(s)وَلِىَwaliyawhile I haveنَعْجَةٌۭnaʿjatuneweوَٰحِدَةٌۭwāḥidatunoneفَقَالَfaqālaso he saidأَكْفِلْنِيهَاakfil'nīhāEntrust her to meوَعَزَّنِىwaʿazzanīand he overpowered meفِىfīinٱلْخِطَابِl-khiṭābi[the] speech
38:23
قَالَqālaHe saidلَقَدْlaqadCertainlyظَلَمَكَẓalamakahe has wronged youبِسُؤَالِbisuāliby demandingنَعْجَتِكَnaʿjatikayour eweإِلَىٰilātoنِعَاجِهِۦ ۖniʿājihihis ewesوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedكَثِيرًۭاkathīranmanyمِّنَminaofٱلْخُلَطَآءِl-khulaṭāithe partnersلَيَبْغِىlayabghīcertainly oppressبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themعَلَىٰʿalā[on]بَعْضٍbaʿḍinanotherإِلَّاillāexceptٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand doٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَقَلِيلٌۭwaqalīlunand fewمَّاmā(are) theyهُمْ ۗhum(are) theyوَظَنَّwaẓannaAnd became certainدَاوُۥدُdāwūduDawoodأَنَّمَاannamāthatفَتَنَّـٰهُfatannāhuWe (had) tried himفَٱسْتَغْفَرَfa-is'taghfaraand he asked forgivenessرَبَّهُۥrabbahu(of) his Lordوَخَرَّwakharraand fell downرَاكِعًۭاrākiʿanbowingوَأَنَابَ ۩wa-anābaand turned in repentance
38:24
فَغَفَرْنَاfaghafarnāSo We forgaveلَهُۥlahufor himذَٰلِكَ ۖdhālikathatوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedلَهُۥlahufor himعِندَنَاʿindanāwith Usلَزُلْفَىٰlazul'fāsurely is a near accessوَحُسْنَwaḥus'naand a goodمَـَٔابٍۢmaābinplace of return
38:25
يَـٰدَاوُۥدُyādāwūduO DawoodإِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weجَعَلْنَـٰكَjaʿalnāka[We] have made youخَلِيفَةًۭkhalīfatana vicegerentفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthفَٱحْكُمfa-uḥ'kumso judgeبَيْنَbaynabetweenٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi[the] menبِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَتَّبِعِtattabiʿifollowٱلْهَوَىٰl-hawāthe desireفَيُضِلَّكَfayuḍillakafor it will lead you astrayعَنʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) AllahإِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَضِلُّونَyaḍillūnago astrayعَنʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishmentشَدِيدٌۢshadīdunsevereبِمَاbimābecauseنَسُوا۟nasūthey forgotيَوْمَyawma(the) Dayٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(of) Account
38:26
