وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَكْثَرَ شَىْءٍ جَدَلاً 54
وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓاْ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُواْ رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ قُبُلاً 55
وَمَا نُرْسِلُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَۚ وَيُجَـٰدِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُواْ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّۖ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَايَـٰتِى وَمَآ أُنذِرُواْ هُزُوًا 56
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُۚ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًاۖ وَإِن تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهْتَدُوٓاْ إِذًا أَبَدًا 57
وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِۖ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُواْ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَۚ بَل لَّهُم مَّوْعِدٌ لَّن يَجِدُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوْئِلاً 58
وَتِلْكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُواْ وَجَعَلْنَا لِمَهْلِكِهِم مَّوْعِدًا 59
وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَـٰهُ لَآ أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰٓ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِىَ حُقُبًا 60
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجْمَعَ بَيْنِهِمَا نَسِيَا حُوتَهُمَا فَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُۥ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا 61
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyصَرَّفْنَاṣarrafnāWe have explainedفِىfīinهَـٰذَاhādhāthisٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'ānithe Quranلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankindمِنminofكُلِّkullieveryمَثَلٍۢ ۚmathalinexampleوَكَانَwakānaBut isٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuthe manأَكْثَرَakthara(in) mostشَىْءٍۢshayinthingsجَدَلًۭاjadalanquarrelsome
18:54
وَمَاwamāAnd nothingمَنَعَmanaʿapreventsٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamenأَنanthatيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟yu'minūthey believeإِذْidhwhenجَآءَهُمُjāahumuhas come to themٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidanceوَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟wayastaghfirūand they ask forgivenessرَبَّهُمْrabbahum(of) their Lordإِلَّآillāexceptأَنanthatتَأْتِيَهُمْtatiyahumcomes to themسُنَّةُsunnatu(the) wayٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)أَوْaworيَأْتِيَهُمُyatiyahumucomes to themٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishmentقُبُلًۭاqubulanbefore (them)
18:55
وَمَاwamāAnd notنُرْسِلُnur'siluWe sendٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengersإِلَّاillāexceptمُبَشِّرِينَmubashirīna(as) bearers of glad tidingsوَمُنذِرِينَ ۚwamundhirīnaand (as) warnersوَيُجَـٰدِلُwayujādiluAnd disputeٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliwith falsehoodلِيُدْحِضُوا۟liyud'ḥiḍūto refuteبِهِbihitherebyٱلْحَقَّ ۖl-ḥaqathe truthوَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟wa-ittakhadhūAnd they takeءَايَـٰتِىāyātīMy Versesوَمَآwamāand whatأُنذِرُوا۟undhirūthey are warnedهُزُوًۭاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
18:56
وَمَنْwamanAnd whoأَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more wrongمِمَّنmimmanthan (he) whoذُكِّرَdhukkirais remindedبِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiof the Versesرَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lordفَأَعْرَضَfa-aʿraḍabut turns awayعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom themوَنَسِىَwanasiyaand forgetsمَاmāwhatقَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forthيَدَاهُ ۚyadāhuhis handsإِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā[We] have placedعَلَىٰʿalāoverقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsأَكِنَّةًakinnatancoveringsأَنanlestيَفْقَهُوهُyafqahūhuthey understand itوَفِىٓwafīand inءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihimtheir earsوَقْرًۭا ۖwaqran(is) deafnessوَإِنwa-inAnd ifتَدْعُهُمْtadʿuhumyou call themإِلَىilātoٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidanceفَلَنfalanthen neverيَهْتَدُوٓا۟yahtadūthey will be guidedإِذًاidhanthenأَبَدًۭاabadanever
18:57
وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaAnd your Lordٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūru(is) the Most ForgivingذُوdhūOwnerٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۖl-raḥmati(of) the MercyلَوْlawIfيُؤَاخِذُهُمyuākhidhuhumHe were to seize themبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبُوا۟kasabūthey have earnedلَعَجَّلَlaʿajjalasurely, He (would) have hastenedلَهُمُlahumufor themٱلْعَذَابَ ۚl-ʿadhābathe punishmentبَلbalButلَّهُمlahumfor themمَّوْعِدٌۭmawʿidun(is) an appointmentلَّنlanneverيَجِدُوا۟yajidūthey will findمِنminother than itدُونِهِۦdūnihiother than itمَوْئِلًۭاmawilanan escape
18:58
وَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd theseٱلْقُرَىٰٓl-qurā[the] townsأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed themلَمَّاlammāwhenظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūthey wrongedوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We madeلِمَهْلِكِهِمlimahlikihimfor their destructionمَّوْعِدًۭاmawʿidanan appointed time
18:59
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقَالَqālasaidمُوسَىٰmūsāMusaلِفَتَىٰهُlifatāhuto his boyلَآlāNotأَبْرَحُabraḥuI will ceaseحَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntilأَبْلُغَablughaI reachمَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junctionٱلْبَحْرَيْنِl-baḥrayni(of) the two seasأَوْaworأَمْضِىَamḍiyaI continueحُقُبًۭاḥuquban(for) a long period
18:60
فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenبَلَغَاbalaghāthey reachedمَجْمَعَmajmaʿathe junctionبَيْنِهِمَاbaynihimābetween themنَسِيَاnasiyāthey forgotحُوتَهُمَاḥūtahumātheir fishفَٱتَّخَذَfa-ittakhadhaand it tookسَبِيلَهُۥsabīlahuits wayفِىfīintoٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaسَرَبًۭاsarabanslipping away
18:61
