ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنكُمْۖ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِۖ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ مِن شَىْءٍۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُۥ لِلَّهِۗ يُخْفُونَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَۖ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَـٰهُنَاۗ قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْۖ وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ 154
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْاْ مِنكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ إِنَّمَا ٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُواْۖ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ 155
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَكُونُواْ كَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَقَالُواْ لِإِخْوَٲنِهِمْ إِذَا ضَرَبُواْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ كَانُواْ غُزًّى لَّوْ كَانُواْ عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُواْ وَمَا قُتِلُواْ لِيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٲلِكَ حَسْرَةً فِى قُلُوبِهِمْۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ 156
وَلَئِن قُتِلْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ مُتُّمْ لَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ 157
ثُمَّthummaThenأَنزَلَanzalaHe sent downعَلَيْكُمʿalaykumupon youمِّنۢminfromبَعْدِbaʿdiafterٱلْغَمِّl-ghamithe distressأَمَنَةًۭamanatansecurity نُّعَاسًۭاnuʿāsanslumberيَغْشَىٰyaghshāovercomingطَآئِفَةًۭṭāifatana groupمِّنكُمْ ۖminkumof youوَطَآئِفَةٌۭwaṭāifatunwhile a groupقَدْqadcertainlyأَهَمَّتْهُمْahammathumworried [them]أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhum(about) themselvesيَظُنُّونَyaẓunnūnathinkingبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiabout Allahغَيْرَghayraother thanٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth ظَنَّẓanna(the) thoughtٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖl-jāhiliyati(of) [the] ignoranceيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasayingهَلhalIs (there)لَّنَاlanāfor usمِنَminafromٱلْأَمْرِl-amrithe matterمِنminanyشَىْءٍۢ ۗshayinthingقُلْqulSayإِنَّinnaIndeedٱلْأَمْرَl-amrathe matterكُلَّهُۥkullahuall (of) itلِلَّهِ ۗlillahi(is) for Allahيُخْفُونَyukh'fūnaThey hideفِىٓfīinأَنفُسِهِمanfusihimthemselvesمَّاmāwhatلَاlānotيُبْدُونَyub'dūnathey revealلَكَ ۖlakato youيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnaThey sayلَوْlawIfكَانَkānawasلَنَاlanāfor usمِنَminafromٱلْأَمْرِl-amrithe matterشَىْءٌۭshayonanythingمَّاmānotقُتِلْنَاqutil'nāwe would have been killedهَـٰهُنَا ۗhāhunāhereقُلqulSayلَّوْlawIfكُنتُمْkuntumyou wereفِىfīinبُيُوتِكُمْbuyūtikumyour housesلَبَرَزَlabarazasurely (would have) come outٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who كُتِبَkutibawas decreedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuupon themٱلْقَتْلُl-qatlu[the] deathإِلَىٰilātowardsمَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖmaḍājiʿihimtheir places of deathوَلِيَبْتَلِىَwaliyabtaliyaAnd that might testٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahمَاmāwhatفِىfī(is) inصُدُورِكُمْṣudūrikumyour breastsوَلِيُمَحِّصَwaliyumaḥḥiṣaand that He may purgeمَاmāwhatفِىfī(is) inقُلُوبِكُمْ ۗqulūbikumyour heartsوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Awareبِذَاتِbidhātiof whatٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūri(is in) the breasts
3:154
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoتَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawturned backمِنكُمْminkumamong youيَوْمَyawma(on the) dayٱلْتَقَىl-taqāmetٱلْجَمْعَانِl-jamʿānithe two hosts إِنَّمَاinnamāonlyٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُis'tazallahumumade them slipٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanبِبَعْضِbibaʿḍifor someمَاmā(of) whatكَسَبُوا۟ ۖkasabūthey (had) earnedوَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd surelyعَفَاʿafāforgaveٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahعَنْهُمْ ۗʿanhum[on] themإِنَّinnaindeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahغَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌۭḥalīmunAll-Forbearing
3:155
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO youٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]لَاlā(Do) notتَكُونُوا۟takūnūbeكَٱلَّذِينَka-alladhīnalike those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelievedوَقَالُوا۟waqālūand they saidلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْli-ikh'wānihimabout their brothersإِذَاidhāwhenضَرَبُوا۟ḍarabūthey traveledفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthأَوْaworكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereغُزًّۭىghuzzanfightingلَّوْlawIfكَانُوا۟kānūthey had beenعِندَنَاʿindanāwith usمَاmānotمَاتُوا۟mātūthey (would have) diedوَمَاwamāand notقُتِلُوا۟qutilūthey (would have) been killedلِيَجْعَلَliyajʿalaSo makesٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahذَٰلِكَdhālikathatحَسْرَةًۭḥasratana regretفِىfīinقُلُوبِهِمْ ۗqulūbihimtheir heartsوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيُحْىِۦyuḥ'yīgives lifeوَيُمِيتُ ۗwayumītuand causes deathوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahبِمَاbimāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou doبَصِيرٌۭbaṣīrun(is) All-Seer
3:156
وَلَئِنwala-inAnd ifقُتِلْتُمْqutil'tumyou are killedفِىfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahأَوْaworمُتُّمْmuttumdie[d] لَمَغْفِرَةٌۭlamaghfiratuncertainly forgivenessمِّنَminafromٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَرَحْمَةٌwaraḥmatunand Mercyخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(are) betterمِّمَّاmimmāthan whatيَجْمَعُونَyajmaʿūnathey accumulate
3:157
