وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى جَاعِلٌ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةًۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ ٱلدِّمَآءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَۖ قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ 30
وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلْأَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنۢبِــُٔونِى بِأَسْمَآءِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ 31
قَالُواْ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَآ إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَآۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ 32
قَالَ يَـٰٓـــَٔادَمُ أَنۢبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْۖ فَلَمَّآ أَنۢبَأَهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ 33
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُواْ لِأَدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ 34
وَقُلْنَا يَـٰٓـــَٔادَمُ ٱسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ 35
فَأَزَلَّهُمَا ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِۖ وَقُلْنَا ٱهْبِطُواْ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّۖ وَلَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ 36
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَـٰتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ 37
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقَالَqālasaidرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikatito the angelsإِنِّىinnīIndeed, I (am)جَاعِلٌۭjāʿilungoing to placeفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthخَلِيفَةًۭ ۖkhalīfatana vicegerentقَالُوٓا۟qālūthey saidأَتَجْعَلُatajʿaluWill You placeفِيهَاfīhāin itمَنman(one) whoيُفْسِدُyuf'siduwill spread corruptionفِيهَاfīhāin itوَيَسْفِكُwayasfikuand will shedٱلدِّمَآءَl-dimāa[the] blood[s]وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuwhile weنُسَبِّحُnusabbiḥu[we] glorify (You)بِحَمْدِكَbiḥamdikawith Your praisesوَنُقَدِّسُwanuqaddisuand we sanctifyلَكَ ۖlaka[to] YouقَالَqālaHe saidإِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَعْلَمُaʿlamu[I] knowمَاmāwhatلَاlānotتَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou know
2:30
وَعَلَّمَwaʿallamaAnd He taughtءَادَمَādamaAdamٱلْأَسْمَآءَl-asmāathe names كُلَّهَاkullahāall of themثُمَّthummaThenعَرَضَهُمْʿaraḍahumHe displayed themعَلَىʿalātoٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِl-malāikatithe angelsفَقَالَfaqālathen He saidأَنۢبِـُٔونِىanbiūnīInform Meبِأَسْمَآءِbi-asmāiof (the) namesهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāi(of) theseإِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou areصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful
2:31
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidسُبْحَـٰنَكَsub'ḥānakaGlory be to YouلَاlāNoعِلْمَʿil'maknowledgeلَنَآlanā(is) for usإِلَّاillāexceptمَاmāwhatعَلَّمْتَنَآ ۖʿallamtanāYou have taught usإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed YouأَنتَantaYouٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(are) the All-Knowingٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
2:32
قَالَqālaHe saidيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُyāādamuO Adamأَنۢبِئْهُمanbi'humInform themبِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ ۖbi-asmāihimof their namesفَلَمَّآfalammāAnd whenأَنۢبَأَهُمanba-ahumhe had informed themبِأَسْمَآئِهِمْbi-asmāihimof their namesقَالَqālaHe saidأَلَمْalamDid notأَقُلaqulI sayلَّكُمْlakumto youإِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَعْلَمُaʿlamu[I] knowغَيْبَghayba(the) unseenٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَأَعْلَمُwa-aʿlamuand I knowمَاmāwhatتُبْدُونَtub'dūnayou revealوَمَاwamāand whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [were]تَكْتُمُونَtaktumūnaconceal
2:33
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقُلْنَاqul'nāWe saidلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikatito the angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟us'judūProstrateلِـَٔادَمَliādamato Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟fasajadū[so] they prostratedإِلَّآillāexceptإِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblisأَبَىٰabāHe refusedوَٱسْتَكْبَرَwa-is'takbaraand was arrogantوَكَانَwakānaand becameمِنَminaofٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
2:34
وَقُلْنَاwaqul'nāAnd We saidيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُyāādamuO Adamٱسْكُنْus'kunDwellأَنتَantayouوَزَوْجُكَwazawjukaand your spouseٱلْجَنَّةَl-janata(in) Paradiseوَكُلَاwakulāand [you both] eatمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itرَغَدًاraghadanfreelyحَيْثُḥaythu(from) whereverشِئْتُمَاshi'tumāyou [both] wishوَلَاwalāBut do notتَقْرَبَاtaqrabā[you two] approachهَـٰذِهِhādhihithisٱلشَّجَرَةَl-shajarata[the] treeفَتَكُونَاfatakūnālest you [both] beمِنَminaofٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
2:35
فَأَزَلَّهُمَاfa-azallahumāThen made [both of] them slipٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itفَأَخْرَجَهُمَاfa-akhrajahumāand he got [both of] them outمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatكَانَاkānāthey [both] wereفِيهِ ۖfīhiin [it]وَقُلْنَاwaqul'nāAnd We saidٱهْبِطُوا۟ih'biṭūGo down (all of you)بَعْضُكُمْbaʿḍukumsome of youلِبَعْضٍlibaʿḍinto othersعَدُوٌّۭ ۖʿaduwwun(as) enemyوَلَكُمْwalakumand for youفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthمُسْتَقَرٌّۭmus'taqarrun(is) a dwelling placeوَمَتَـٰعٌwamatāʿunand a provisionإِلَىٰilāforحِينٍۢḥīnina period
2:36
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓfatalaqqāThen receivedءَادَمُādamuAdamمِنminfromرَّبِّهِۦrabbihihis LordكَلِمَـٰتٍۢkalimātinwordsفَتَابَfatābaSo (his Lord) turnedعَلَيْهِ ۚʿalayhitowards himإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHeٱلتَّوَّابُl-tawābu(is) the Oft-returning (to mercy)ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful
2:37
